A native of Chicago, Kathy Griffin moved west to pursue an acting career. After joining the famed Los Angeles Groundlings comedy improvisational troupe, Griffin began attracting attention. With that experience, Griffin segued to guest-starring roles on such series as Mad About You; ER; Ellen; and also appeared as the recurring character, Sally Weaver, on Seinfeld.
After her various TV guest spots, Kathy began gaining notice as a Stand-Up comedian and landed her own HBO 1/2 Hour Comedy Special.
Griffin is probably best known for her 4-year stint on the NBC sitcom Suddenly Susan as Vickie Groener, Brooke Shields' acerbic colleague. Kathy also supplied the voice for Alice, the triangle-haired woman on the animated series, Dilbert.
In 1998, HBO gave Griffin her own HBO One-Hour special, A Hot Cup of Talk.
Along the way, Kathy has been seen regularly on many MTV shows, Co-hosted The Billboard Music Awards three years in a row; appeared on numerous talk shows including Politically Incorrect, The Rosie O'Donnell Show, Late Night with David Letterman, and Live with Regis and Kathy Lee; she has written articles for GLAMOUR and IN STYLE Magazines; and has been featured in the films Pulp Fiction, The Cable Guy, It's Pat, Four Rooms, Muppets From Space, Where's the Caboose, Dill Scallion, The Intern, On Edge, and the animated feature, Lion of Oz.
Kathy can still be seen across the country doing stand-up at colleges, theaters and comedy clubs.
Since Suddenly Susan ended, Kathy has appeared in a dual role on the X-Files and in Eminem's video, The Real Slim Shady, co-directed by Dr. Dre. She hosted VH1's Behind the Music Anniversary Special and supplied a voice for the animated series, The Simpsons. Kathy also recently hosted the MTV series, Kathy's So-Called Reality.
Kathy’s passion for reality continued when she participated in and won Celebrity Mole on ABC. She also hosted the NBC reality series Average Joe, and currently another stand up comedy special of hers called The D-List, is now airing on Bravo. The release of her irst DVD Allegedly was November 30th, 2004.
In January, 2005, Bravo clinched a deal with D-List darling Kathy Griffin for a six-episode, one-hour unscripted series to document the comic's life and efforts to keep her career afloat. Each episode will include a portion of Griffin's stand-up act or public appearance, as well as the behind-the-scenes negotiations and preparations that go into each performance. It's an insider's look at the indignities and encounters that can only happen when one is a well-known and under-appreciated comic doing what it takes to make a living.
The series will also feature Griffin's "peeps," who include: her husband, Matt; her assistant, Jessica; her live-in decorator, Mike; her "gays" Dennis and Tony; her overworked public relations team; her parents; her out-of-town in-laws; and a host of others who manage to both help and hinder Griffin's quest for fame.

" I think it's wonderfully ironic that Kathy Griffin, the ultimate reality TV fanatic, now has her own unscripted series. Her cutting commentary on Hollywood and celebrity culture made for a very successful stand-up act and comedy special for Bravo. I'm confident the series will be every bit as entertain .
" Here is storytelling at its finest... all of it's hilarious. It’s time to promote Griffin to the A-list .
"Gossip Goddess...she’s on the A list when it comes to comics and dishing a little grit about her brushes with celebrities... Griffin’s a good ol’ girl with plenty to say, and we’re right here ready to listen.
